Hoffelder Subject: 2004/2003 Marathon Dick Parker and I (members of the Astronomical Society of Greater Hartford) tried twice to run a marathon this year at the end of March but both times we were clouded out around 1 A.M. We tried again on the night of April 24/25 in Tolland, CT, Dick with his 12 1/2 inch f/5 reflector (a Stellafane winner!) and me with my C14, both utilizing the Right Angle Sweep method of location. Due to it being late April, M74, 77, 76, 79, 31, 32, 33, 34 and 110 were too close or below our western horizon. However, we were able to easily find 76, 31, 32 and 110 in the morning in the northeast, but we then missed M30 and 55 due to clouds in the southeast. So the count was 103; not great, but very good considering the conditions. tom h
