From: Jiri Kubanek Date: Wednesday March 29, 2017 Subject: Messier Marathon Messier marathon of West Bohemia 2017 Since 2003 amateur astronomers from West Bohemia meet at the event Messier Marathon. The existing record was 103 objects (in 2011 and 2012). Jiri Kubanek and Michal Rottenborn decided to overcome the record. On March 26/27, 2017 we went to Bohemian Forest (near Zhuri by Horska Kvilda), more than 1,100 meters above see level and latitude of 49.1N. It was very good sky (with evening zodiacal light). Michal Rottenborn used his Somet-monar 25x100 and Jiri Kubanek observed by Michal's 8"Newton (mount and tripod on loan from Rokycany & Plzen Observatory). We both saw amazing 108 Messier's objects (except M 55 and impossible to observe M 30). It is unofficial Czech record (at the same night several observers from North Bohemia near Liberec were observed 108 objects too). Theoretically it is possible to see 109 objects during one night from Czechia, but it is very difficult, may be sometime... Jiri Kubanek
