Subject: Messier Marathon From: Rafael Leao Date: Mon, Jun 3, 2019 at 7:09 PM Good afternoon, We manage to realize the marathon as planned, on the sequence a short description: The first Messier Marathon of the Observatorio Municipal de Campinas Jean Nicolini was realized on 01/06/19 with weather conditions not to favorable (the day was hot and humid with some clouds). Te team was made by four persons: Rafael Leao, Marcia Leao, Julio Lobo and Rubens Azevedo. We used an 15" obsession classic dobsonian without any electronics (almost all star map reading was done by Marcia) with a nagler 26mm eyepiece. There was 6 hours of marathon (approximately from 18h to mid night) and we were able to catch 46 Messier Objects and 3 southern objects during the marathon, in the following order: 1) M42 2) M41 3) M93 4) M47 5) M46 6) M50 7) M95 8) M96 9) M105 10) M65 11) M66 12) M94 13) M109 (very hard) 14) M86 15) M84 16) M49 17) M61 18) M104 19) M68 20) M5 21) M4 22) M80 23) M19 24) M62 25) M7 26) M6 27) M10 28) M12 29) M107 30) M9 31) M13 32) M22 33) M28 34) M8 35) M20 36) M21 37) M24 38) M23 39) M17 40) M16 41) M18 42) M69 43) M70 44) M54 45) M25 46) M57 47) Jewel Box - ngc 4755 - open cluster 48) Omega Centauri - ngc 5139 - globular cluster 49) Centaurus A - ngc 5128 - galaxy It was a lot of fun and we are looking anxiously to do it again on 2020.
