Charles Messier: Connaissance des Tems, an 1809 (1807)

Sixth and last Summary of astronomical observations,
from 1752 to January 1, 1760

By M. Messier

These observations have been made at the observatory of the navy, hôtel de Cluny, during seven years, from 1752 to January 1, 1760. These esven years precede the summaries of thirty-five years of observations, published in the Connaissance des tems for the years VII, VIII, the mixture of astronomy which made sequence in that for the year IX, in that for the year XV, and in that for 1809, which has resumed the Gregorian calendar years.

I have employed for these observations different instruments, which are mentioned at each one.

The position of the observatory of the navy, [is] latitude 48d 51' 14" [north], longitude 1".8 in time to the east of the imperial observatory.

From 1778 to 1796, I have compared the Moon near the meridian with a great number of stars, with an achromatic refractor of large aperture of 3 1/2 feet [FL], without changing the declinationand for the search of new planets per zone.

Index of oppositions of the four superior planets, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn and Herschel, which I have observed.
